Watch Our Corn Grow
Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is Penn State’s program to monitor the flights of moths that lay eggs on sweet corn, and hatch into ear worms. Pheromone Traps, as shown in the picture, are used to help determine when migrations of moths occur in the fields to determine if and when sprays are needed to protect from worm damage. We are also experimenting with the use of beneficial insects (Trichogramma ostriniae) to reduce use of sprays.
